Description

This publication features Flossie Peitsch’s installation art production since her 1997 arrival in Melbourne. It will feature visual art gathered from many solo exhibitions – see Selected CV for details.

The framework for the book is three (3) chapters using the themes of Peitsch’s PhD thesis, ‘The IMMORTAL NOW’ to be held at Span Galleries, Melbourne, 21/11/06 – 2/12/06. Here is a brief statement of the exhibition:

Using installation, Peitsch’s visual theology places spirituality within the grasp of the everyday, a holy pilgrimage through the ever changing, ever challenging journey called ‘family’.

The book chapters relate to the three (3) galleries entitled:

Chapter 1: CHAPEL – the spiritual self’s space/place within the family
Chapter 2: NAVE – the spiritual self’s relationship to community (community art)
Chapter 3: SANCTUARY – the spiritual self’s life journey ‘from here to eternity’

Other installations relating to these themes, though not exhibited at Span, are included in the publication.

Additionally, the book documents Peitsch’s community art production, especially the vast ‘Chisholm’s Homes’ multimedia project, 2005 and ‘WAYSIDE’, in current production, focusing on the cross-fertilization and crossover between community and visual art production

The book includes some of Peitsch’s visual research gathered in Italy, 2004, considering Renaissance spirituality with numerous sketches, paintings and atypical photos, juxtaposing the sacred with the secular, both in Florence and in Melbourne.

The publication will include a CD of Soundscapes/digital/crafted production from various projects. The Launch Date in October, 2006 coincides with the exhibition opening of ‘Chisholm’s Homes’ at the Migration Museum, Adelaide and in November, at ‘THE IMMORTAL NOW’ at Span Galleries, Melbourne.
